Public Beta 1 of ESET Mobile Security for Symbian and Windows Mobile, ESET's antivirus software for mobile operating systems is now available for testing. This software includes the following new features and functionality:
New Features
- Anti-Theft features, including SIM Matching and Remote Wipe
- SIM Matching enables users to define a list of trusted SIM cards on a certain device
- Remote wipe allows users to remotely delete sensitive information using a pre-defined password and SMS command
- Fully integrated firewall monitors ingoing and outgoing communication in accordance with user-defined rules and profiles
- MMS/SMS anti-spam includes black/whitelisting and blocks unwanted messages
- Security audit checks phone features relevant to mobile security and notifies the user of security concerns
- Remote Administration support in the Business Edition
Improvements
- Heuristics have been optimized for use on mobile platforms
- Infected files can be placed in a Quarantine folder, from which the user can then choose to restore or permanently delete them
- On-Demand scanning scans the entire device or specific folders
- Advanced On-Access scanning scans all created, used or incoming files
- Logs and statistics are in a more accessible format
- The user interface has been enhanced to promote ease of use with settings dialogs and an intuitive menu
Beta Considerations and Requirements
The beta test version is a precursor of the final product without full functionality and documentation. It is intended for experienced users and should not be installed on operating systems or devices that perform critical tasks because it may cause errors or crashes.
The ESET Mobile Security Public Beta 1 software runs on Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 or 2, Symbian S60 5th Edition and Windows Mobile versions 5.0, 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5.

Q1: What is ESET Mobile Security?
A1: ESET Mobile Security is ESET's antivirus software for Symbian and Windows Mobile devices.
Q2: How do I obtain a copy of ESET Mobile Security?
A2: Sign-up information and download links are available at http://beta.eset.com/mobile.
Q3: Do I have to provide my name and email address to download the beta?
A3: You need to provide a valid email address to receive your username and password for ESET Mobile Security. You do not have to provide any additional information to download the beta. If you fill out the form under the "More Info" tab, we will be able to contact you via email during the beta test cycle to announce new releases or provide other urgent information.
Q4: How many beta test releases will there be?
A4: ESET does not have a public schedule for when new beta test builds will be released. New beta test builds will be released in response to feedback from bug reports and feature requests as well as to add additional functionality to the software.
Q5: How long will the beta test program run for?
A5: The beta test cycle for ESET Mobile Security will run until the program reaches the necessary levels of quality, performance and reliability.
Q6: What happens at the end of the beta test program?
A6: At the end of the beta test program, a message will be sent to testers who provided a contact email address letting them know the exact date the beta test version ceases to work.
Q7: How do I provide feedback on ESET Mobile Security?
A7: To contact ESET in order to report a bug, request a feature or ask a question regarding ESET Mobile Security, write a message in the ESET Beta Forum or send email to betasupport@eset.sk. A9: ESET Mobile Security provides ESET´s unique proactive protection concept optimized for mobile devices. Using advanced heuristics capable of proactive threat recognition, the identification of known as well as unknown threats is possible.
Q10: What is the difference between On Access and On Demand?
A10: On-Demand functions require user interaction whereas On-Access functions are executed automatically.

A1: The system requirements for ESET Remote Administrator Console are as follows:

Q2: How do I activate the Public Beta of ESET Mobile Security for Symbian and Windows Mobile?
A2: To activate ESET Mobile Security Beta, use the username and password that were sent to you in your registration email. If you did not receive your license information, check your spam folder to be sure it was not filtered by your email client.
Q3: How do I get the updates?
A3: Updates are delivered over the Internet through various types of connections (WiFi, Bluetooth, PC-sync, GPRS, EDGE, etc.).
Q4: Does the installation of ESET Mobile Security affect the performance of the operating system?
A4: ESET Mobile Security was developed for use on mobile devices. Therefore all processes and applications are designed and optimized to utilize minimal system resources.
Q5: What triggers the Remote Wipe functionality?
A5: Users must first set a certain password to verify the validity of the remote command. This password can be set in the ESET Mobile Security anti-theft settings.
Remote wiping is triggered by a simple SMS command sent from another mobile device. Users just have to send an SMS with the following text:
#RC# DS <password>
Where <password> represents the actual password chosen by the user and entered in the anti-theft settings.
